Sr. Network Engineer
The Sr. Network Engineer duties consist of applying fundamental principles, concepts, techniques, and guidelines in the area LAN & WAN networking. This position's primary’s duty is to help ensure the overall health and productivity and the organization’s networking systems. To this end, responsibilities include reviewing, tracking, supporting and resolving system issues at the datacenters, edge devices, partner WAN connections, recommending and deploying hardware and/or software solutions to enhance or add IT systems functionality.
Plan, design, document, and implement various LAN / WAN systems
Consult with users and analyze needs to determine hardware and software functional specifications
Displays good analysis and problem solving skills, accurately analyzing a situation and utilizes creative problem solving
Responsible for creating and managing user accounts within the network infrastructure and access within policies to ensure optimal productivity
Maintain security and privacy of the information systems and equipment
Support of monitoring solutions to provide visibility on the availability, performance, and trending of the network systems
Diagnosing and resolving problems across a variety of hardware platforms and vendors including Cisco, F5, Palo Alto, Barracuda, WAN acceleration, and more
Ability to perform network administration skills to include upgrades and maintenance of hardware operating systems
Experience configuring and supporting Palo Alto firewalls equipment is a plus.
Knowledgeable about Firewall and security best practices
Ensure technology solutions comply with compliance and risk management policies
BS in computer science, engineering or related field
Advanced knowledge of business processes in related industry, preferably financial industry
5 or more years of experience in networking technology
Related experience should include understanding of Layers 2 switching technologies and encapsulation protocols including VLAN tagging, MPLS STP,VTP, COS, QOS
TCP/IP, OSPF, ISIS, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, LDP Protocols
Cisco 12000 Cisco IOS, iOS-XR, 7600, Nexus 7K, ASR 9K
Understanding of Layer 3 TCP/IP protocol including BGP, OSPF, DHCP, DNS, IPV4, IPV6
Understands OSI Layers
Palo Alto and Panorama firewall experience a plus
Experience with multi-carrier Internet/MPLS, and networking equipment and troubleshooting
Advanced knowledge of Cisco series switches, routers, firewalls, OTV and advance routing protocols required
Strong understanding of corporate LAN and WAN data networks, and supporting component features, services, and technologies. e.g., bandwidth, authentication, authorization, prioritization, voice, WANs, LANs, VLANs, wired access, wireless access, 802.1x, etc.
Knowledge and experience in connectivity and communications protocols essential
Experience with cabling systems, switches and routers
Excellent organizational and project management skills including ability to organize time and work on multiple tasks and follow through to completion of task or project
Ability to create and write clear, complete documentation of systems and procedures
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills including high degree of attention to detail and accuracy
Self-motivated and able to work independently or with a team
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday through Friday. The daily schedule may vary from 8 am to 5 pm or 9 am to 6 pm. Hours may vary or exceed 40 in any given week depending on the needs of the business.
This position requires up to 10% travel.
